Abalone Paua Shell
The Abalone and Paua shell are both well-known among jewelry experts for the rich and iridescent colors they contain. Paua is a species of Abalone that is found exclusively off the coasts of New Zealand and is constrained to shores, making it less readily available. The Paua is known for being the most colorful of all the Abalone species and flourish intense colors. These can be green, pink, or purple and blue, and gold or crimson toning is often present.
These shells are often used in smudging rituals, not only because they are useful to catch the hot ashes that fall away from the smudging stick, but also because they are a beautiful gift from ocean that Mother Earth gives us. They hold the energy of the ocean and bring a strong calming and healing energy, allowing you to remain connected to the water and its renewable power.
Including abalone shells in your smudging rituals you bring all four elements in one spot - the shell, smoke, herbs/sticks and lit represent water, air, earth and fire. By incorporating the elements into your smudging ritual, you’re inviting Mother Earth to be present and in the space created by her transformations and manifestations take place.
